Global Engagement and Partnerships

Ocean–climate solutions are shaped through international processes, regional initiatives, scientific collaboration, and partnerships across sectors and geographies. Advancing this work requires relationships that can operate across governments, research institutions, civil society organizations, innovators, funders, and multilateral spaces.

Our Global Engagement and Partnerships work strengthens the relationships and channels for cooperation that support informed action around ocean–climate priorities. Through strategic partnerships, informal diplomacy, and participation in international forums, this work helps broaden the range of actors able to contribute to discussions on research, governance, innovation, and responsible development.

Why Global Engagement and Partnerships

Ocean–climate solutions touch on questions of risk, responsibility, public value, and long-term stewardship. These questions are often addressed in international and regional settings where mandates, capacities, and priorities differ.

Constructive cooperation depends on more than evidence or policy design alone. It also requires trust, institutional relationships, and the ability to work across political, regional, and sectoral boundaries.

This work supports countries, institutions, civil society organizations, and communities seeking to participate in key processes and help shape emerging ocean–climate agendas.

Convenings

Convenings are one way Ocean Visions brings together actors working across science, policy, innovation, and finance. Through dialogues, workshops, international events, and participation in major policy forums, Ocean Visions creates opportunities for exchange among institutions and regions that do not always interact through existing channels.

This includes Ocean Visions’ participation in international processes and events such as UN climate, ocean, biodiversity, and sustainability forums, as well as Ocean Visions-supported dialogues connected to emerging ocean–climate priorities.

The Ocean Visions Biennial Summit is the organization’s premier global convening. It brings together scientists, policymakers, innovators, funders, civil society organizations, and practitioners working across ocean and climate issues to examine emerging challenges, strengthen relationships, and accelerate collaboration.

Global Engagement and Partnerships within REACH

Global Engagement and Partnerships supports the broader Reach program agenda by strengthening the relationships, partnerships, and diplomatic channels that connect regional leadership with international policy, governance, and innovation spaces.

This work extends across GEOS and Policy and Governance, and also supports Ocean Visions’ Reduce, Remove, and Repair strategic priorities, helping ensure they are connected to the institutions, partnerships, convenings, and international conversations that shape how ocean–climate solutions are explored and advanced.
