Climate Week NYC 2026

From September 20-27, representatives from government, civil society, research and the private sector, will convene in New York City for Climate Week NYC to advance dialogue and accelerate action on our planet’s most pressing climate challenges. Ocean Visions will host two sessions during the week focused on climate challenges through the lens of the ocean. Our first session will review and assess ongoing ocean-based efforts to get to net zero emissions; to clean-up massive legacy CO₂ pollution; to repair and restore critical ocean systems and avoid earth system tipping points; and to build global momentum and capacity for ocean-climate action. The second session will provide a deeper dive into near-term climate risks and response options, through an Arctic lens, as the world approaches critical tipping points.

Event: The State of Ocean-Climate Action in World of Accelerating Change

As the interlocking ocean and climate crises intensify and accelerate, governments, communities, researchers, investors, and innovators are grappling with how to adapt their responses to the pace and scale required. This event will explore some of the thorniest challenges at the ocean-climate nexus while spotlighting emerging and potential ocean-based approaches to accelerate the transition to net zero and real zero, clean up massive amounts of legacy CO₂, repair and restore critical ocean systems, and build global momentum for ocean-climate action.

Event: Navigating Non-Linear Climate Risk and Response: From the Arctic to the Global Climate System

While cutting greenhouse gas emissions and removing CO₂ are essential to climate stabilization, they may not slow, stop, and reverse global warming quickly enough to prevent irreversible impacts. Using the Arctic as a critical lens, this session will bring together international leaders, experts, and knowledge holders to explore accelerating climate risks, potential tipping points, responsible research, and how different response options could help manage the risks of rapid change.
